Cashmere

Cashmere is a luxury fiber that comes from the soft undercoat hairs of cashmere goats. These fibers are hand combed from the goat during the molting season, and then sorted, washed, dyed, and spun into cashmere yarn. Cashmere is soft, lightweight, and insulating which is why it’s used in high-end clothing and textiles.

As a natural fiber, there is special care that needs to be taken to keep it looking and performing at its best. When cared for correctly, cashmere can last a lifetime and it becomes softer with age.

This is the reason why during our research for materials for LIVLY we knew this was the best item to compliment and add to our soft world.

How to care for your Cashmere

It isn't recommended to wash or dry clean your wool and cashmere after every use, as it can damage the yarns that make up the items. While how often you wash the cashmere pieces ultimately comes down to personal preference, you can follow the steps outlined below for the best care.

Washing:
First, fill a sink, tub or basin with cold water, and add a small amout of a cleanser that's specially formulated for wool - wash only with similar colors. Once in the water, gently swirl your garment around for about 30 sec, and let it soak for a couple of minutes before rinsing out the soap with cold water from the faucet. Drain the dirty water and rinse with cool, clean water.

Cashmere is delicate and it is strongly suggested that you hand wash it, but it can also go into the washing machine. For the best result, place your garment in a mesh washing bag. Select the delicate cycle on the machine and make sure the water temperature is cold and the spin is on low. Once the cycle is complete, promptly remove the garment to reduce creasing.

Detergents:
Use a mild detergent and do not use detergent with bleach. Use cold or cool water to prevent fading.

Drying:
Do not tumble dry your cashmere. We recommend you squeeze out excess water by first pressing your cashmere piece into a ball. Once it's no longer sopping wet, lay it out on a dry towel and manipulate the piece so that it conforms to its original shape. Next, fold the towel in half over your cashmere piece; then roll the towel with the cashmere inside until most of the moisture is gone. Place it onto a fresh towel to finish the drying process.

Ironing:
Iron at cool setting, maximum 60-70°C steam. Do not iron directly.

cashmere comb

The cashmere comb is an essential care tool for keeping cashmere pieces pill-free and long-lasting.

Brushing between wears helps release natural oils that rejuvenate yarns to look like new.

How to use: Lay garment flat. Working in sections, use gentle, moderate strokes to comb in one direction until all fuzz and pills are removed.
